The gift of eternal life in the person of Jesus Christ is far and away the best gift anyone could ever receive but may I suggest a second place finisher that may surprise you. In James 1:17 the apostle is inviting us to receive not only a ‘good gift’ but also a ‘perfect gift’ from our Heavenly Father. He continues on to say where the gift comes from and a brief description of the sender. The sender of this perfect gift of course is our Father and as the NLT translates; He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. The Greek word translated variableness in the KJV is parallagē from which our English word ‘parallax’ is derived and means; an object appearing as if it is positioned differently when it is looked at from different angles or different positions. If you haven’t been experiencing this perfect gift of His steadfast love, try changing your position and altering your view of Heaven. His love is constant all the time but our view of Him may have been veiled by circumstances and situations that are unavoidable and that happen to everyone. We are experiencing that ‘He is a good God all the time’ and that it’s not a cliché but a reality. This new reality is as the song says, a love that never fails, never gives up, never runs out on us! The perfect gift from Heaven is to see that He is for us and not against us and that He desires to bring us into His perfect image and likeness. May you experience a new and fresh revelation of his unchangeable love for you this Christmas season!
