Let’s Go Places!

As Winter slowly gives way to Spring we begin to plan trips and vacations and begin to dream about the endless possibilities that await us in 2019. Having grown up in the Midwest and now living on the West Coast for the last twenty-two years travel is just what I do. I have always been fascinated with marketing slogans and have been pondering for the last several months Toyota’s ‘Let’s Go Places’ slogan. It just struck a cord with me and as I began to meditate on how God desires to take us to new places in him, I found that the Bible has a lot to say about that very subject. So let’s go places! Let’s first define the word place: place is Greek ‘topos’ from which we get our word topography-description of a place; from late Latin topographia, from Greek topographia “ a description of a place,” from topos “place.” Meaning “collective features of a region” I am convinced God wants to rearrange some of our spiritual landscapes and plant fresh realities of who he is in and who we are in him in our spiritual landscapes. I could note that most of the issues we have are at our top or in our mind and we can agree that if we have issues most stem from wrong concepts of who we are in him. Let’s start with positional mindset as we begin to go places in him. Eph. 2:6 NKJV – 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

THE PLACE OF IDENTITY The first ‘place’ to visit is found in Rom 9:26 NKJV – 26 “And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ There they shall be called sons of the living God.” We really need to grasp this reality and  all the benefits that are associated with being sons of God. We are growing up into him in all things not just those that are convenient or to our liking. This identification process takes time and but can really revitalize our relationship with him from being a Sunday morning only Jesus to a 24/7 to a he’s always there for us discovery. I could share hours on each of these places but if I give you the outline then you can do your own homework and enjoy the fruit of your study.

THE PLACE OF INTERCESSION In Luke 11:1, – 1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” There is a certain place of prayer that we will all come to sooner or later in our journey. It is not just a place of petition but a place of listening and enjoying the moments spent with him. We are all busy but I can challenge you to take some time off the grid and just experience staying in his presence. These are the most rewarding times of all. Doesn’t it bear repeating that if the disciples needed instruction on prayer that we do also? I think it does and I don’t want to be so enamored with myself that I neglect to ask for fresh training in this sometimes forgotten part of our life in him. I love intercession but I also love ‘cessation’ which means the process of being brought to and end or in this case brought to my end so he can begin and continue fashioning his image and likeness in me.

THE PLACE OF REST Acts 7:49 says ‘Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me? says the LORD, Or what is the place of My rest? We are exhorted by Jesus to not only receive his rest in Matt. 11:28 but also to find rest for our souls. There is a rest that is given and a rest that is found. But the question remains can he find  rest in us or is he always propping us up or putting out some ‘dramatic’ self imposed fire in our lives? When we find that place of rest in him our journey in him becomes that much more satisfying and enjoyable as I see him at work in all that I do and am part of.

THE PLACE OF FRESH VISION…Mat 28:6 NKJV – 6 says “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. It’s not where he was, but where he is! He isn’t here—he has risen victoriously, just as he said! Come inside the tomb and see the place where our Lord was lying. TPT If it’s still true that we are changed from glory to glory and it is then we should live in expectation that fresh vision and hope is our portion for this next season. We long for the ‘good old days’ from time to time but we also know that there is no turning back and  the adventure that awaits us far exceeds whatever glory there was in those ‘good old days’. What place does he occupy in your life today? Much more than just a memory I hope! Without a vision the people perish but with a fresh vision the same people come alive!

When we vacation don’t we get a coffee cup, t-shirt, hat or something from that place that memorializes the fun time that we had? Isn’t also a reality then that if I have been to that place of  identity, that place of intercession, that place of rest, and that place of vision that I will have something to show for my time spent there? When we vacationed in Mexico a few years back I was able to see firsthand all the places I had only been able to dream about previously.

MY FAVORITE PLACE Luke 4:17-19 NKJV – 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.” As Jesus found his place, so we too are realizing his presence and anointing is upon us in the very place we are at today. There is a message of life, hope, and freedom that only you can tell. Nobody can tell your story like you can. In this place of assignment we have access to all of heaven’s resources to help reach this planet with the eternally good news that Jesus loves us and gave his life for us. And while it is true that we can’t take or lead someone where we haven’t been it’s also true in Romans 8:19-21 TPT that…The entire universe is standing on tiptoe, yearning to see the unveiling of God’s glorious sons and daughters! For against its will the universe has had to endure the empty futility resulting from the consequences of human sin. But now, with eager expectation, all creation longs for freedom from its slavery to decay and to experience with us the wonderful freedom coming to God’s children. Let’s go places!
